Ask most teams "is this actually working?" and you'll get a confident answer. Ask them to show you the data behind it, and the confidence usually disappears.
That's not a data problem. It's a design problem — the data was never built in, so there was never anything to check. Over twenty years leading data functions, I've seen the same five-stage pattern play out everywhere, from a single feature to an entire business: Feature Focused, Data Aware, Data-Enabled, Data-Informed, Data-Driven. Most teams sit lower on that scale than they'd guess, and most of the climb is a decision, not a rebuild.
I've written the framework up properly, and built a two-minute way to see where you actually sit rather than where you'd like to.
Neither requires anything from you beyond honesty about where things actually stand today, not where the roadmap says they'll be next quarter.
